RFID Tracking System for Warehouse Logistics

Description

A three-tier distribution centre where our problem is not stock, it is returnable assets — roll cages, pallets and totes. We buy about 4,000 replacements a year because we cannot tell whether they were lost, kept by a customer, or are sitting behind a rack on tier two. We want RFID portals at the dock doors and the tier transitions, reading Zebra hardware, feeding a service that tracks asset location and flags assets that have not been seen for a defined period. Read reliability at the dock doors is the make-or-break. A portal that reads 92% of a cage passing through is not a tracking system, it is a source of false loss reports, and we will acceptance-test against a known set of tagged assets.

• Design portal placement and antenna configuration for reliable reads at dock doors and tier transitions
• Build the read ingestion service against the Zebra reader APIs with deduplication across antennas
• Track asset location and flag assets unseen beyond a configurable threshold
• Achieve and demonstrate the agreed read rate against a controlled test set
